Technical Migration

The "Personal Line" insurance products website of a leading insurer was originally developed in Cold Fusion. The Cold Fusion server was not scaleable and the site had become fragile as a result of patches applied over the years by different developers who had left little documentation to support the site. Site blackouts and random performance degradation were taking place. It took serious effort to maintain the site. Even small enhancements to the site were a major challenge.

The customer decided to migrate the website from Cold Fusion to J2EE architecture to address these issues and provide better service to the customers visiting the site. AIGSS started the project by creating prototypes for high risk areas and training material for the team to understand and use the framework. The challenge was that AIGSS only had undocumented, un-organized code modules to work on. Two Cold Fusion developers relentlessly went though the code and documented business logic while continuing to support the site. Finding the useful code from tons of old code proved to be a major challenge. Due to tight schedule dates, business logic documentation and designing had to be done in parallel.

AIGSS's quality focus and process oriented project management led to achieving zero defects in first six months after the production launch. One of the key success factors for the project had been the transparent and adequate status reporting mechanism which ensured that the ten member offshore team stayed in synch with the customer. Almost all the deliverables were produced ahead of schedule over the period of one year. The offshore delivery meant lower project costs for the customer. The experienced and skilled team with in-depth technology and knowledge expertise was able to exceed customer expectations throughout the project.

AIGSS created a highly scalable, robust, maintainable application which is able to support the increasing customer load on the website. The website was ranked 2nd in the 10 Portal Wonders list published in June 2003 issue of PMConnect magazine pointing to the tremendous success of the project.
